Ilona Szabó de Carvalho

Ilona Szabó de Carvalho is the president and founder of the Igarapé Institute – a global think and do tank headquartered in Brazil that proposes solutions to the human, digital and climate security agendas. Among other things, she oversees the Institute’s regional program designed to strengthen the rule of law, accelerate nature finance to foster green enterprise, and enable zero deforestation in the Amazon Basin. Ilona serves on several boards, including as co-chair of the Global Future Council on Nature and Security at the WEF, and member of the UNSG High-Level Advisory Board on Effective Multilateralism, of the Social and Sustainable Economic Development Council of Brazil’s Presidency and its Commission on Environment and Sustainable Development, and of Re.green, an ecological restoration company.
